China Creek — Today's Sheet
Alberni Inlet, DFO Subarea 23-1. One page, all of it in one place. Pulled Mon 26 Oct 2026, 12:17 PDT. Check DFO before you go, rules can change fast.

Each row is DFO's own text, read live off the Area 23/123 page. Where a subarea is named, the number only applies in that subarea. Coastwide salmon rule: 4 per day, all species combined. Finfish other than salmon: possession generally double the daily limit.
Sockeye, read carefully: the 4 above is the Area 23 number, and it is what applies here. DFO's restrictions table zeroes sockeye in two places inside the area, neither of them at China Creek: San Mateo Bay and the entrance to Alberni Inlet (Subareas 23-3 and 23-4, south of the Chup Point to Hissin Point line at 48°57.453'N) and the tidal Somass and portion of Alberni Harbour (up at the head). Take 4 here; take 0 there. Same page, different line.
Read these three too: prawn and shrimp are open in 23,123 right now, limit 125; the seasonal window changes, check the pulse schedule; bivalves are closed in 23-1 and 23-2 (below); halibut max 112 cm head-on and annual limit 10; only one of quillback / china / tiger rockfish may be kept, and no yelloweye.

Every row above is DFO text, not my summary.
Is China Creek inside any of them? No — not one of the five.
The marina sits at 49°09.2'N (49.1525, -124.7928), in Subarea 23-1, which is the inlet north of 49°06.222'N. Compared against the boundary each restriction is drawn on, it is:
| Clutesi Marina boat ramp | Oct 1-31, any gear | inside the Somass River, between the green can at the ramp and the power line in the lower Somass | head of the inlet |
| Portion of Alberni Harbour | Oct 1-31, any gear | east of the line 49°14.689'N 124°49.025'W to 49°14.397'N 124°48.902'W near Lupsi Cupsi Point | south of it |
| Tidal Somass + portion of Alberni Harbour | 22:00-05:00, year round | from the Paper Mill Dam tidal signs down to the line 49°14.184'N 124°50.302'W through Hoik Island to the Somass mouth light | south of it |
| Tidal Somass, McCoy Pool | Oct 1-31, any gear | Somass River from the upstream entrance of McCoy Pool down to the Highway 4 bridge | head of the inlet |
| Uchucklesit, Alberni Inlet | Jun 30-Oct 31, any gear | Subarea 23-2 south of the Bilton Point to 49°00.341'N 124°51.513'W line, and 23-3 north of the Chup Point to Hissin Point line at 48°57.453'N | north of it |
Boundaries quoted from DFO's area descriptions; the comparison is mine, and the marina coordinate is the one the wind is read at. This is a map problem, not a live feed: if the notice above changes the line, the answer changes with it.
Shellfish, the river, and what is still missing
Don't harvest bivalves here. Clams, oysters, mussels, scallops, geoduck. China Creek is Subarea 23-1. DFO's biotoxin notice
FN1157, read live this morning (26 Oct 2026), could not be read into a sentence at pull time.
The notice itself. Areas change, so check the SHELLI map (link below). One shellfish line, not a full list.
River gauge: unavailable at pull time. The Somass and Stamp flow is upstream water, not water you fish from here; it matters as a reason the fish are moving, not as a spot. Numbers are on EC's real-time gauge (link below) when it answers.
New in-season notices — NAMED GAP
The Fishery Notice System does answer a plain URL, so I read it now: keyword search → newest biotoxin notice, cited above with its number and date. What I will not do is claim real-time state — in-season notices land through the day, and I read once at pull time. So this one is a dated lead, not a green light: re-check https://notices.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fns-sap/index-eng.cfm before you go.
Tide — Port Alberni, at the head of the inlet (CHS predictions, station 08575)
High12:473.56 m / 11.7 ft
Low19:340.09 m / 0.3 ft
HighTue 01:532.94 m / 9.6 ft
LowTue 07:191.15 m / 3.8 ft
Now 3.53 m / 11.6 ft · tide is rising (read 12:22 PDT) · Moon: Full, 100% lit. Turn (slack) is around the high and low times. These times and heights are CHS predictions for Port Alberni, whose gauge sits about 8 km north of this marina in a straight line (49.2256, -124.8136), and about 15 km of water. Do not shift these printed times by a guess. Which way the difference runs is not printed anywhere I can reach: the wave reaches this end of the inlet before the gauge, but slack water is not the same moment as high water in an inlet this long, and the current can turn well after the crest has gone by. So it stays a named gap. If you keep a boat here, close it: how many minutes apart is the turn at Port Alberni and the turn at this marina, and which one comes first? One sentence, and it goes on the sheet, dated, with your name on it.
Wind at the marina — modelled, not measured (Open-Meteo, 49.1525, -124.7928)
Wind NNW 5 km/h, gusting 10 (model value at 12:15, not a measurement)
Model trend for this grid square: 12:00 6g10 → 15:00 2g6 → 18:00 10g20
Wind warnings — EC marine, read 12:17 PDT
No warning in force for the outer coast at pull time (the EC alerts feed returned none for this box). Zone West Coast Vancouver Island South, issued 10:30 PDT Mon 26 Oct.
Wind variable 5 to 15 knots becoming northwest 10 to 20 this afternoon except northwest 20 to 30 northwest of Estevan Point this evening. Wind becoming northwest 15 to 25 near midnight except northwest 25 to 30 northwest of Estevan Point overnight. Wind northwest 15 to 25 Tuesday.
Seas 1 to 2 metres building to 2 to 3 Tuesday morning.
That zone is the coast at the mouth of the inlet. The inlet itself is inland water and has no marine forecast of its own, so read this as the wind coming in off the coast, not a reading at the marina.
